There are many different types of braces, ranging from the traditional metal braces that most of us are familiar with, to almost invisible clear braces. Let's take a look at some of the more common braces in use today.

Metal braces
Metal braces are made from high-grade stainless steel and are the most common type of braces in use. They use elastic ties to hold the wire into the bracket. The elastic ties are available in grey or a range of popular colours.

Self-ligating braces
Self-ligation might sound like something a lawyer would dream up, but it's actually an innovative new technology that can reduce the time you need to wear braces. It uses a high-tech wire system that is more comfortable than traditional braces and usually requires fewer adjustments, so you won't need to visit us as often during treatment.

Clear Braces
Clear braces are an option for adult treatment, as the brackets are made from clear material. They're so subtle that your friends may not even notice you're undergoing treatment.

Invisalign
Invisalign uses clear removable tooth-aligners that gradually move your teeth without braces. To find out if Invisalign is right for you CLICK HERE to ask MOG

Removable appliances
Removable appliances are plastic plates that can be used to correct tooth position. They are not suitable for everyone and, in most cases are used for the correction of simple problems.

How long do braces take?
Every person who has ever had their smile enhanced by MOG has asked the same question. How long does it take? Obviously every treatment is different, but on average you would expect to wear braces from 12 to 24 months. After the braces have been removed we recommend wearing retainer plates.

The only way to get an accurate answer to the question is to discuss it with an orthodontist. Why not book a free consultation and we'll advise you.

But wait, there's more
You could be here for hours reading about different types of orthodontic appliances. Many treatments are quite complex and are better explained in person. Rather than going into too much detail here, we recommend you arrange a consultation. Over a coffee we'll take the time to explain everything you need to know about orthodontics.
